April 24, 2017Get a Spray Tan Not A Sun Tan
October 1, 2017When planning your first trip to the spa, it is important to know and recognize the difference between the various spas. All spas are different and will offer a unique range of services at various price points with their own spin on each procedure. It is vital you do you research to avoid breaking the bank. If you plan to go to the hotel spa while on vacation, make sure you make appointments well in advance to avoid missing out on the opportunity because all slots are booked. Some people tend to prefer male or female aestheticians. If you are one of those people who feel more comfortable with one or the other, make sure you mention that while making the appointment. It may be difficult to make changes last minute.
Prepping Your Body Beforehand
For most people, a trip to the spa is a luxury that may be infrequent. To make the most out of your visit, make sure to avoid too much caffeine intake or a large meal before the appointment so that relaxing while on the massage table is easier for you. Also, keep in mind that piercing and prodding your skin and nails before the treatment could cause irritation and so disturbances in the services provided. To enjoy the spa experience, it may be a good idea to arrive 15-30 minutes early and be relaxed instead of rushing over to the spa last minute. This will give you time to calm down and really get a feel for the spa surroundings.
What to Do Upon Arrival
Once checked in, it may be beneficial to let the staff members know it is your first time at the spa and ask for a tour of the facilities available. Often, a robe and slippers will be provided for you to change into so you feel comfortable. Perhaps you could even take a warm shower or do stretches to loosen up the muscles. While you wait for your appointment, you will need to fill out a medical questionnaire so that any allergies, medical conditions and sensitivity can be highlighted. If you are taking any medication, it may be wise to mention those as well. You may also want to go over your problem areas you would like to target during the treatment so that the services can be customized to your needs. It would also be wise to use the restroom before you go in for the treatment.
What to Take with You
A robe, slippers and towel will be provided for you but if wearing your own is more comfortable, you have the option to do so. It may be a good idea to dress comfortably as well. If you plan to make use of the spa’s various services, you may need to bring gym clothes, a swimsuit, basic toiletries and any other of you necessities such as contact case for contact wearers. Since a trip to the spa is all about relaxing and taking a day off from the world, maybe bring along a book for some light reading while you wait.
In a Nail Treatment
Nail treatments usually take about half an hour to complete, a pedicure taking just a little longer, around 45 minutes. Before the appointment, try not to cut your nails because the technician will do this for you and it makes filing easier if nails are a little longer. It is important you share your opinions throughout the treatment to make the experience more pleasurable and the results more rewarding. If you want your nail polish to last longer, avoid washing your hands for a few hours after the appointment so the varnish settles nicely. If you accidentally smudge the polish, it is okay to ask for a touch up the same day or even the next day.
During a Massage
Since this requires you to undress, it may be daunting. You are given enough time to strip down to where you are comfortable and sheets are provided for you to slip under when you are ready to do so. As mentioned earlier, voice your opinions and share your concerns. Falling asleep during a massage is more common than you would think so do not feel ashamed if this happens. Drinking a lot of water can help flush toxins so it is advised you do this before massages too. Feeling sore after a massage is also normal so do not be alarmed.
