4 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Chemical Peels
August 25, 20164 Ways To Get Your Skin Ready For Fall Weather
September 30, 2016Have some unwanted hair that you would like to get rid of? Unfortunately, there aren’t any truly permanent ways to do this. However, there are a few options to achieve smooth, hairless skin. These can include shaving, epilators, laser hair removal, hair cream removal, and waxing. All types of hair removal last for different lengths of time before the hair grows back. Waxing lies in the middle, it doesn’t keep you hairless for as long as laser hair removal, but it also keeps your skin hair free for much longer than shaving. Waxing is the best choice for if you are looking to practice hair removal less frequently but aren’t looking to break the bank (as laser hair removal can be quite expensive).
How does waxing work?
Waxing means that wax is applied to the skin in whatever area the person would like to get rid of the hair. This is most usually the legs, armpits, eyebrows, and bikini areas. The wax sticks to the hair and when removed, pulls them out of the pores all the way to the root. This ensures that the hair will take longer to grow back and will even be softer than if it was shaved.
What to expect when getting a wax
Is it your first time getting a wax? Here are some tips on what to expect the first time. Remember, it is a professional performing the wax, and no matter if it’s your eyebrows or your bikini line it will be a safe and comfortable environment. Your waxing professional should ask you about any medical conditions or medications that might cause problems when mixed with waxing. They will then ask you to remove whatever article of clothing is necessary for your type of wax. After laying on the bed, the wax will be prepared, spread on the area, and removed. The removal process can be painful, but it is important to remember it only last a quick second and breathing can be very helpful in this situation.
How to prepare for a wax
- Make sure you don’t have any big events scheduled. And especially no the event you are getting waxed for! In case of redness or irritation, you don’t want to risk getting the procedure done day of.
- Do not shave for at least two weeks before the appointment. However, make sure that the hair isn’t too long. The general rule of thumb for a good wax length is an eighth to a quarter of an inch.
- Exfoliate – but not too much. Gentle exfoliation for a few days coming up to the waxing appointment can help the wax stick to just your hairs and not your skin. Make sure not to exfoliate the day of the appointment. Also, don’t use harsh exfoliants as they can cause irritation to the skin and make the waxing process more painful. Something like a washcloth will do!
- If you have a low pain tolerance, take an ibuprofen or other pain reliever of choice 30 min before your appointment.
